Experience
Monica graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in the year 2017.
After law school, she articled at a reputable downtown law firm and stayed on as an associate before joining Verhaeghe Law.
Monica’s legal focus is primarily in the areas of family law, civil litigation and immigration appeals.
For family law, Monica has experience in all areas including parenting, mobility application, international child abduction, child support, spousal support and matrimonial property division.
In particular, Monica has extensive experience in dealing with Emergency Protection Order (EPO) and understands how it can affect custody and your rights as a property owner.
Monica encourages her clients to first consider mediation and alternative dispute resolutions, but she will not hesitate to head to Court as a zealous advocate for her clients. She has appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, as well as the Court of Appeal of Alberta.
Monica also practices civil litigation, and has appeared in Courts dealing with contract dispute, debt collection, and corporate internal governance dispute.
In her Immigration Law practice, she specializes in humanitarian and compassionate grounds application, sponsorship appeals, judicial reviews of administrative decisions. She has represented clients before all the immigration tribunals as well as the Federal Court of Canada.
In her spare time, Monica enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
